Lesson 2: My, Oh My

I'm not quite sure how to begin this post. I have a central idea about what it is that I want to say, but I'm not sure how to go about saying it. So, I'll start from the middle.

My dress now smells like rum.

How did this happen? Well, I'm going to tell you. But now I have to start at the beginning.

My friend Paige and I went shopping in Chattanooga, just for fun. While we were browsing the mall, we came across a pair of dresses which we fell in love with. And so we were faced with the question: where were we going to wear them? A friend of ours was having a birthday party in a couple weeks, so we bought them and decided to wear them for that.

A few weeks later (AKA Friday night)...

Tonight is the night that we get to wear our fabulous dresses. You can imagine just how excited we were considering we had bought these dresses weeks ago and now we finally got to wear them. A few of our friends came over to my place and we all got ready together, took pictures. It was wonderful, but messy. Anyway, we get in our cars and drive off to the party. It started at seven but we didn't get there until eight. We get out of our cars and I see some people I know across the parking lot so I walk on over with another friend of mine to say hello. Eventually I end up talking to this friend of mine who has some rum that he's stuck in a coke can and is drinking out of. We're just talking about how we hope the night will be a lot of fun and this girl who is already halfway down the road to wasted wobbles on over. She eyes my friend's coke can and yanks it out of his hand, throwing it on me and my highly anticipated dress.

I was near tears I was so angry. But I didn't say anything to her, I didn't start a fight, and I didn't tell people. I will satisfy myself by approaching this girl the next time I see her and handing her my dress so that she can pay for my dry cleaning. Basically, I came out on top for the night because I did not sink to her drunken level and make a fool of myself and ruin everybody's fun.

If you have a bone to pick with someone, wait until the night is over to plot a way to go about doing that. Because if you are anything like me, you'll react hastily and the end result will be nasty. When something like this happens to you, smile. Karma will catch up with her anyway.

(P.S. I'm the one in the white dress.)
